the F550 has 4.88 gears from what I'm told..what a powerhouse! my '06 F350 with 4.11's only gets 14mpg with a 6.0L diesel.I have an auxiliary 90gallon tank and use it often..do you have any plans for aux fuel tank?

It is a bit of a hog on fuel....
There is no original tank on this anymore, didn't have one when I got it. Someone built a tank that is mounted in the deck, holds around 300L or 79 US gallons eek
I would kinda like to find a 5.9 and put it in, I'm sure it would get much better mileage.
I can't say what the gearing is, in low it sure does crawl.

Commonly-
F250-3.73
F350-4.10
F450-4.56
F550-4.88
4.10s are deep enough for me with a diesel.I wish Ford had stronger springs,my old 85 K-30 hauled more with a lighter GVWR.

I had a company truck, F550 with the 7.3 litre and an automatic. It was the worst truck I ever drove. Even with those 4.88 rear ends it couldn't spin the tires in mud. Had to use low range to move around the leases. The 6 speed standard was a totally different truck.
I personally had a 2000 F350 7.3 litre with the 6 speed. Great truck 30 mpg if you could keep it at 80 km/h. 18 mpg pulling a 30 foot travel trailer at 110 km/hr.

IF I remember correctly and I did the math right, this truck was giving me around 7.8 mpg..... Not great by any stretch

I don't dare to say I'm not going on a leisure trip in a 4x4 F-550.If i'm driving a F-series truck like these,it's cause I have a job to do..so it costs what it costs to do business..no small sport utility vehicle will do what these will.

Yep my 92 f super duty with only 105k miles gets a whopping 7 miles to a gallon.. doesn't help it has a 3000 lb empty dump bed.. and its 2 wheel drive.. I'm the 3rd owner.. got it with 79 n change in 06.. tried to sell her but no one believed the milage.. she makes a few dump runs in the spring n fall. Dont have work for her.. She is my backup if pickup brakes.

You got out of the lawn business MD?
It appears the automatics suck up a bit of power? I prefer the standard anyhow.

Does anyone here have any insight as to how hard it would be or even possible to use a cab from a 2016 and make the parts from my 1999 work on it?
