For my mini loader project I have the choice of a Kubota D6oo or a Briggs 18Hp, which do you think would be better?

I would prefer the Kubota engine myself but the Briggs would be less work I'm sure (or is the Briggs liquid cooled?)

I'm leaning toward the Kubota but some have suggested the briggs (air cooled) would be more powerful.

Having trouble identifying the kubota specs, from what I have seen hp ranges from 15 to 19.

Considering that both engines are not new I'm sure a few of the horses have escaped from the paddock.

Depends, the diesel would likely be more fuel effecient than the gasoline engine. The Kubota would require a cooling system but from a reliability stand point the diesel would probably also be more reliable than the gasoline engine would be.
I have an Izusu diesel engine I am going CadTrac project. It is a 34hp if I remember correctly. The D600 is rated at 14hp from what I can find on the net, in a limited search.
A 14hp engine should be able to run a 5GPM pump at 2000PSI, an 18Hp engine should be able to run 6.5GPM pump at 2000PSI.
If you can deal will the cooling system than the diesel would probably be the best choice. But if you do not want to deal with the cooling system than use the gasoline engine.
Just my two cents worth.
Dan.

Thanks Dan,

I'm now 2 cents richer.

The cooling system is all there and fuel efficiency is always a consideration when 'gas' stations are a long way off.

The diesel worked well on the greensking so I guess if it ain't broke, you know the rest.

if you use the diesel be sure to add fuel lube.

Hi Tom,

Not sure what you mean by fuel lube. Stp or the like?

I know nearly 20 years ago here in Oz they changed/ removed the sulpher in diesel fuel and every other man and his dog had to rebuild their pumps because of leaking seals.

Thanks Dan,

I'll look into alternatives available down here.

Just as a side note I used marvel mystery oil in a Kubota diesel engine with no apparent ill effects. Put like a couple capfuls in about 3 gallons of diesel if I remember it right. Even unstuck the rack on the injector pump.
