Going to do a make over on my splitter soon, going from 11 to 16 gpm pump. Will need new engine too, as the 5 hp will be too small. Is a 8 hp Honda really worth almost double a Briggs? I do about 30 full cord a year now.

It depends on which honda.. Japan is best.. But the new brigg efi are nice. Keep away from the cheaper briggs parts price makes them throwaway engines.

I did buy a Honda, I got the GX 390 almost 12 hp. About 6 cord split with it & so far so good - Starts on one pull hot or cold. The first two that surplus center shipped were damaged, the 3rd was o.k. - rough handling by ups -

Makes me wonder what happens to all the damaged goods etc. from various places. I know some of it gets sold at a discount. My guess is we would be surprised how much gets thrown away.
Well, I reckon I did the quote thing wrong somehow.....

update - did 30 cord [full ones] this spring, great engine - Had to take it off the splitter and use it to power the Hiab crane on my Chevy C60 as the 18 hp on it layed an egg. Good choice that Honda, no regrets.
