I'm still kicking and check in here once in a while and still fixing stuff, unfortunately it's other peoples stuff. Son's, daughter in laws, grandson's, neighbors, cousins, etc. The trouble is I haven't had time to work on my own stuff. My son's Hummer and daughter in laws Subaru are showing cat and evap codes now my own is showing the same. I haven't had time to start any new projects and am giving up chasing this emissions control crap and going back to my old Mercedes 240 D diesel.

Exactly one of the reasons I'd sooner keep my old vehicles wink
Good to hear you chime in Smiley

We've had all kinds of troubles with emissions inspection as NY has gone with California standards. My sons Hummer H3 has sat almost a year because the readiness monitors will not reset. All systems test OK but after many drive cycles, monitors still won't reset so he has a not legally drive-able $9000 pile of junk. Daughter in laws Subaru would need more parts than car is worth to pass. She just bought a nicely cared for 95 Toyota that shows no check lights but being 95 or earlier needs only safety inspection to pass. My own 08 Caravan is just turned on evap and cat codes so will have to start chasing that now. It just doesn't seem to end.

Gosh, not living in any big city they don't even require emmission checks on my vehicles. Just safety inspections.

Not overly fond of Californicate standards. (Translation: I hate them!) EPA forbids gas lawnmowers in LA, got to be electric.... which means they figured out how to export their polution to Utah, where a big portion of their power is generated. We're the bad guys for burning coal... to produce their power. We tried leasing the old military docks in Oakland to load Utah coal to ship to China.. would have meant perhaps thousands of jobs in both Oakland and Utah... no, no, no... we can't have that! They (Cal eco radicals) blocked the deal. It's dead! Both docks and coal mines sit idle... cept the coal going to power plant feeding power to f-ing hipocytes in Californicate.

Right on Doc. I had to deal with the eco wacko's almost on a daily basis as a highway construction supt. A couple quick examples were silt fencing required along a stream across a farmers field 600 ft away from the job. On a different job, for wetland mitigation; moving a swamp across a major 4 lane controlled access road, when we had all kinds of right of way adjacent to the swamp. The cost of moving it was $1.2 million when we could have dug a new swamp next to the existing one in a couple days for a cost of around $20-30,000.
Your government at work.
Please don't confuse New York City with most of conservative upstate New York. Because of the population concentration in the urban areas, which combined might consist of 1/2 million acres, they out vote the rest of us on the remaining 34.5 million acres. Our NY state laws made mostly by city folk are bad enough, but our illustrious governor Cuomo seems to love California and in your words wants to Californicate us.

Have no problem with upstate NY. Have actually been there and found it quite lovely and even charming. Visited Albany, Rennslayer county seat and Township of New Scotland. Was quite surprised how friendly and helpful everybody was, having preimpression of NYC attitudes. Only part I didn't like was how hard it was to find a decent cup of coffee. Was there a week and only had about two good cups. (Found a coffee stand in some mall.)

NY in it's geographical sense is beautiful. If the damn govt wasn't so screwed up and the taxes so screwed up. ( the state as a whole supports the city) I would have moved back when I retired out of the Navy. Now I go back to visit once in a while just to enjoy the country without getting taxed to death.

Yes it's a different world between upstate and downstate in scenery and attitude. Where you were in New Scotland is similar to where I live 90 miles west, with the rolling hills, river valleys and mountains. From my living room and kitchen windows, I can look across the Mohawk valley and on a clear day, see the Adirondack peaks. Unfortunately we have been invaded and outvoted by folks that want to bring their city ways and laws with them. At one town meeting that a measure was introduced to institute zoning, building restrictions ect., one woman newcomer stood up telling how she loved it out here in the country and everything was so great BUT! it would be nice to also have police protection, sidewalks and lighted roads and the only thing thing that really bothered her was these farmers dribbling manure in the road from their spreaders. At that point I couldn't stand it any longer and stood up and said, "Lady, if you can't take a little s--- in the road, you'd better pack your a-- back to the city where it belongs. At that point almost everyone in the crowd stood up and started applauding me and again as she walked out the door. We stalled it for a few years until enough of them moved in to overrule us and Albany mandated new requirements.
