Hi all, just thought I should start a new thread for my latest project.
I know we all like our pictures so I would like to document "Sid's" rebuild here. I know it wont be anywhere near the standard set by Tom but hope you all enjoy it anyway.

I bought this via an auction site, it failed to sell for their minimum price so I tracked down the location of the yard via the internet and offererd to buy it for the auction price, done. It seems bidders only saw this first photo, no one came to inspect it but there were 2 pallets of parts sitting behind the machine.
So it needs wheels and tyres, an engine and a few other assorted parts.

Yeah I know what you mean about shipping costs, I have ordered a lot of parts from Wengers in PA, should be here in about 3 weeks. Yet even with the shipping costs they are still cheaper than I can buy here.

Yeah, you sure are right about this. Hopefully things will change in a couple of months when its up and running and a lot of other jobs get finished around here.

We are in the process of removing the boom and cabin so we can repair a few cracks, some in the boom and a major fix on the lower lift arm to cabin mount pivot. One of the major problems is removing all of the tapered pins, they are jamed in tight like a larger taper on front suspension parts on a car. The easiest way to break them free is with a large hammer but you need to hit the steel surrounding the tapered pin as you can't access the back of the pin to knock them out. After a few failed attemps and a lot of hitting with a BFH my brother Bill made a puller from some assorted inventory, it works so well that you have to be vary careful when the pin finally lets go with a bang, parts fly everywhere. This puller should have a bolt and washer added to the inside shaft end to stop all of the parts flying out in all directions. Some pins were pulled out with the puller and others the puller was only used to add lots of pressure to the back of the pin, then we hit the frame with a hammer.

Gazza, good luck with this project. A friend has a skid loader he wants to repower this winter. It had an engine in it when he bought it but it ended up with a hole the size of a baseball in the block. He bought a second one of the same model that was in a lot better shape and it has a different engine in it.
He found an engine, same engine as the second loader has, for the first one but needs to make mounting brackets to adapt it to the loader.
They are never easy to get at anything on, so patience is sometimes needed before a BFH comes out to play.
Dan.

MD, he found it on Craig's List, is all I know. It is a Japanese diesel. I think he said it came out of a Light Plant that had been hit at a highway job site. That is all I can remember right now.
Dan.
